Means of transport in Palermo

Subway
____________________________________________________________________________

Buenos Aires has five subway lines known by the letters: A, B, C, D y E, and the Premetro. The subway line that crosses Palermo is line D, which links the center of the city with Belgrano neighborhood, crossing Palermo. For those who stay in Palermo near Santa Fe Avenue (where the line D crosses) will find in the subway a great ally at the time of moving along the city. Catedral station of line D coincides with the location of the Plaza de Mayo and the Casa de Gobierno or Casa Rosada. 9 de Julio station of line D will allow the visitor to disembark in front of the famous porteño Obelisk. Tribunales station will leave you at Colón Theatre. The subway offers another advantage: in 9 de Julio station and in Catedral station people can make connections with other subway lines, allowing them to visit other neighborhoods of Buenos Aires.

The ticket costs AR$ 0,70 (seventy argentine cents), less than US$ 0,25 (twenty five US$ cents ). It is important to mention that this transport DO NOT circulate throughout the night. It wroks from Mondays to Saturdays from 06.00hs to 22.30 hs and Sundays from 08.00 hs to 22.00 hs.

The first subway line of Buenos Aires was inaugurated in 1913, when only 12 cities of the world had this innovative means of transport. This line, which previously had a route from Plaza de Mayo to Plaza 11 de Septiembre, still Works and has been extended up to Primera Junta, in the neighborhood of Caballito.

Urban bus
____________________________________________________________________________

Another important means of transport of Palermo and Buenos Aires in general is the urban bus, also known as colectivos by the porteños. On Santa Fe Avenue circulate the major number of lines that pass in Palermo. The vast majority of the urban buses of Buenos Aires circulate 24 hours, the 365 days of the year. The ticket costs AR$ 0,80 (eighty argentine cents), approximately US$ 0,25 (twenty five US$ cents).

Taxi
____________________________________________________________________________

Like in every big city, in Buenos Aires there are thousands of taxis. Buenos Aires taxis are black and yellow, and can be boarded in any street since they circulate constantly. The final price of a taxi ride is the one shown in the taximeter, an electronic device that every taxi has on the right of the driver. The number expressed in this device is always shown in argentine pesos. The price of the taxi in Buenos Aires is very accessible: a ride from Palermo to Recoleta will cost you AR$ 9 (nine argentine pesos), approximately US$ 3 (three US dollars) and a ride from Palermo to downtown will cost you approximately AR$ 12 (twelve pesos), that is to say, US$ 4 (four US dollars).

Radio Taxi
____________________________________________________________________________

An alternative to the regular taxis are the radio taxis. They offer the advantage of requesting the taxi by phone, from the place where you are and ask to be picked up by the cab. The number of the mobile that made the trip is registered in the Radio Taxi company. This brings the passenger additional safety, since people can call the agency in case any contingency happens. Radio taxis have the same cost than regular taxis. The passenger will have to pay the amount that is shown in the taximeter, always expressed in argentine pesos. People usually leave tips rounding up the figure that is shown in the display.

Remises
____________________________________________________________________________

Remises shall be ordered by phone and they are usually more economic than taxis. When people ask for one, the price is agreed in advance according to the destination, and the agency sends the car to the place indicated by the passenger. They are a convenient option to go for example to airports and bus or train stations, because they can be reserved in advance to assure punctuality.
